Sunday Fund-raiser-day

On August 26th, 2018, Yush on the Blog hosted its first ever fives-a-side football tournament. The purpose of the tournament was to raise funds for a relative who has been granted the opportunity take part in the Academic Achievers Tour USA 2018 due to his hard work and outstanding academic results.

The Academic Achievers Tour selects top achievers from various schools within South Africa and invites the learners to tour leading universities, attend lectures and forums, and visit iconic landmarks within the United States of America (USA) and Europe. This year the top achievers will explore the USA. In addition, learners will be granted the opportunity to visit the National Aeronautics and Space Administration better known as NASA. (Bummer, wish I worked a little harder at school)

The fives-a-side tournament was inspired by the huge soccer culture in Cape Town.

Here are the details of the tournament in case you missed it.

The Sunday Fund-raiser-day tournament was held at the Oasis Business Park fives-a-side football pitch situated in Phillipi, Cape Town. There were six teams who entered the tournament at a cost of R 500 per team. Players were given a complimentary meal and a drink as a minor appreciation for their support. The teams were as follows: Daytona Blue, Uthmaan’s Team, Kicked in!, Nike Society, Mfetu’s and the Bothasig Legends. The first match kicked off at 09:30am sharp. Each team displayed effortless football talents and techniques which were far beyond our expectations. A huge CONGRATULATIONS to our tournament champions who Kicked in! to win the Yush on the blog Sunday Fund-raiser-day trophy, our runners-up “Uthmaan’s team” for their die-hard goal scoring and lastly the Mfetu’s who couldn’t resist showing off their impressive football skills. There were no losers!

Thank you to everyone who jumped in to contribute to this heart-warming event. The spectators cheers and encouragement was much appreciated to keep the players going and amped.
